Being based in beautiful Boulder, Colorado has allowed us to become experts in exploring our stunning state - we are lucky to have access to some of the best hiking trails in our backyard. Within driving distance from Boulder are two of Colorado’s most stunning, charming and active mountain towns in the state - Telluride & Crested Butte.

telluride & the san juan mountains
Telluride and the surrounding San Juans are full of history, culture and breathtaking scenery. Officially Colorado’s largest mountain range, the San Juans are home to some of the most picturesque peaks in the country and are full of opportunities for active and cultural exploration.
You’ll hike by bright turquoise lakes and cascading waterfalls as you gaze at the dramatic and snow-capped high peaks – many of which are over 13,000 feet. You’ll hike along paths that zig-zag through soft, expansive meadows full of unique flora and fauna, wildflowers bursting with color in the spring and summer and aspen groves bursting with vibrant oranges and yellows in the fall.
2. crested butte & the elk mountains
An old mining town and known as the wildflower capital of Colorado, the beautiful mountain town of Crested Butte is full of historic charm. A hiking, trail running, fly fishing, mountain biking and outdoor activity mecca, there’s so much to discover right from your doorstep. In the summertime, the meadows are full of wildflowers and the rivers are rushing with clear water and happy fish. In the autumn, the trails are canopied in bright yellow aspen leaves.
In Crested Butte, you’ll hike on winding trails through lush meadows and pretty forests, leading you up high to mountain passes that boast magnificent views of the surrounding high peaks. You’ll picnic alongside sparkling rivers and blue lakes as you discover the true beauty of the Elk Mountains.
3. boulder, the front range & rocky mountain national park
Nestled at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the beautiful and legendary town of Boulder is a great place to be based for a week of adventure in the mountains and discovery in the fun, vibrant town.
Boulder is full of world-class hiking trails that are all easily accessible right from Pearl Street; there’s a plethora of local farms that supply the restaurants with incredible produce and a fun, down-to-earth culture everywhere you go.
When you’re out on the trail, you’ll hike along pathways that wind through rolling meadows while gazing up at the jagged Flatirons and dramatic Rocky Mountains. We know these trails so well since they’re right in our backyard and though we are biased, we truly believe Boulder is one of the most amazing places in the world.
